PROJECT BACKGROUND
WAHT IS HOMEGINKGO?
INTERVIEW INSIGHT
DISCOVER & IDEATE
DURATION
6 months
HomeGinkgo is a rental website where landlords can list properties, and tenants can search, view, and apply for rentals.
WHY WE DO THIS?
The growing demand for housing solutions drives our project. Through user interviews, we identified key areas for improvement in existing platforms, focusing on enhancing the user experience for both renters and property owners.
THE PROBLEM
After discussions with CEO and backend developer, who analyzed the website’s data, we identified that HomeGinkgo experienced customer loss due to…
Low Conversion Rates
Landlords registered but don’t post listings. Result in a shortage of available properties, leading to fewer tenants and a detrimental cycle of user scarcity.
THE GOAL
DISCOVER
INTERVIEW
We conducted interviews with 5 end-users to understand their challenges with the platform. We spoke to landlords with small to medium-sized properties to gather feedback.
Target users:Landlords with small to middle size properties(<10 properties)
I wish to check all current applications easily.

Goal:
1.Minimize time spent on administrative tasks related to property management.
2.Efficiently manage and oversee two rental properties as a side venture.
DEFINE THE PROBLEM BY USER FLOW
Scattered steps:
Frequent 'Next' clicks slowing down the process.
TOOLS

Boost platform utilization rate
Increase satisfaction rates.
Low Satisfaction Rates
The website’s incomplete featuers deter landords, reducing satisfaction due to unmet property management needs.
From interview insights, we set these project goals.
Boost the posting rate among landlords.
Increase property listings
Task 1: We ask interviewers to list one property by following listing process.
Task 2: We asked existing users (landlords) few questions about how they like about the current dashboard.
It takes too many steps to list a property.

PROBLEM 1.1: Lengthy Steps in the Listing Process/Too many options at once
Indoor & Outdoor Amenities
Not suitable to landlords with diverse property types.
Too many options to choose at once.
User flow map with designed screen that shows the complexity of the previous design.
Three distinct branches of listing, challenging for future designer modifications.
Option categories lack coherence.
PROBLEM 1.2: Complex Listing Process
Below is the current listing process involves multiple steps.
Complex backend architectures and frameworks lead to slower development cycles.
SOLUTION 1.1: Reorganizing Policies and Requirements
Amenity categorization based on indoor/outdoor space
Reorganized policies and rental requirements.
Property Policies
SOLUTION 1.2: Streamline Landlord Work Flow
DEFINE THE PROBLEM BY JOURNEY MAP
Simplified workflow for landlords with diverse properties, reducing the learning curve.
Faster development Time
Indoor & Outdoor Amenities
Eliminating the need for users to click 'next' after each question.
SOLUTION 2.1: Automated Communication

INTRODUCING DASHBOARD
MOBILE
We've been able to acquire more and more property listings and collaborations from different companies.
To simplify tenant-landlord interactions, we designed a mobile version to allow tenants to quickly book rentals without manual confirmation from landlords.
SUCCESSFUL IMPACT
We shrink the listing steps from 20 steps into 10 step. This helps to save landlord’s 40% of time and increased user completion rate.
Streamlined the Dev + Design process, increase work efficiency by 10%.
NEXT STEP
Enhance the user interface with design system, focusing on improvements to spacing, colors, and buttons.
Conduct in-depth user research to analyze current flows and identify improvements.
Innovate by exploring creative solutions that will help the platform stand out from competitors.
PROBLEM 2: Inconsistent Communication and Data Tracking
To ensure alignment with the goal, we crafted a journey map that visually highlighted the most pressing areas for our initial focus.
